The Most Dangerous Place in Town

We were bored. So we went to the local animal shelter. To "visit" the animals. Because we knew a visit from a bored family would lift their spirits. That's what every homeless animal living in a kennel in an overcrowded shelter wants. We were to hold the kittens, to walk the dogs, to play with the puppies. We did all these things ... for two hours.

And we came home with this.

And this.

We were supposed to bring home this.

But she has an unfortunate case of heartworms. So I cried. And stood in the heat of the animal shelter parking lot, tapping complete strangers on the shoulder, asking them what I should do. I called friends, neighbors and a vet. With a 50-50 vote, I ultimately decided that I am not Angelina Jolie and can't help EVERYbody. And then I cried some more, even though I was assured that she will be FINE and that she is a very desirable dog and will be scooped up Just Like That after her treatment.

Our two new pets join this.

And this.

Together, they help make this.
